"Every goodbye leads to a hello"
After 13.5 amazing years, I'm leaving Publishers Weekly. My last day is November 3.
(Let's hope it's someone else's last day on the job as well.)
It's been a really good run. I'll miss my colleagues and reviewers so much; there have been a lot of tearful emails and phone calls over the last week. But it's time.
I'm beyond thrilled to announce that I'm joining the PCMag team as a managing editor. I'm especially happy to be working with Wendy Sheehan Donnell, a superb editor, and with my high school buddy Sascha Segan. Tech has always been just as much a part of my life as books, and I'm looking forward to diving back into that world.
For the first time since 2002, I get to just read books and have my own opinions about them. How fucking wild is that?
The ad for my job at PW is posted here. If you're interested, please email me at rose@booklife.com for more details.
It's a pretty weird time to be sharing good news, especially such BIG good news. But I'm so happy to have something good in my life, and I think it's important to talk about good things in hard times. If there's goodness in your life, large or small—even just something you ate that was tasty or something you saw that was pretty—please share in the comments. I'd love to hear about it.

I have daily good things, like a safe place to live and good food and a garden. And it is a gorgeous cold sunny fall day and the leaves are just glowing out there.

good things here in the last week - we got the whole garden in before it snowed, it snowed (it hasn't precipitated in ~2 months, so this wet stuff is all pretty great), i have a lovely new desk to work on in greater comfort at home.

Goodness on my end... Well, I had classic gallstone symptoms, went to the hospital, and they discovered my gallbladder was necrotic and "soupy" and falling apart, so that got removed this weekend. This is my first experience with major surgery, so it's fascinating and weird and my body is an interesting place.
There's a wonderful view out my window just now of very blue sky, dark green tree, and a bright yellow one set against the green.
I had *really* good applesauce just now, which seems like a minor thing, but it had cinnamon and nutmeg and that great apply taste.

due in part to a house fire this year [and subsequent insurance payout], we are in process of buying a house in Baltimore. it's a big change, but the garden is fantastic, and i have hope the entire thing will be as well.

Good luck with this new opportunity!
Good things: jello cooling in the fridge, made with pomegranate juice; my old dog with dementia is with daughter; good things to read and to view. Good friends.

And -- huh! Interesting. Is it put in their food? (Or should I not poke at this?)

I hope the adjustment period goes super smoothly.
My days are filled with small joys.

It is weird to have good during all the chaos of the world and our country, but it's what will help us survive.
I got a fancy new job title to go along with the work I'd been doing (Chief of Operations), I've managed to actually save a decent amount, and I stumbled into an incredibly solid, heartwarming relationship towards the beginning of everything shutting down.

A small happy: walking around late in the afternoon, as little kids went out costumed on the 31st, and seeing a trio of parents all dressed as Justice Ginsburg.
