If you're looking for background information about anything I've posted, it's probably contained in this paragraph:

My legal name is Rose Jasper Fox. It's not the name I was born with, though my first name has always been Rose. Depending on what time of day you catch me, I'm a book reviews editor and blogger for Publishers Weekly (handling reviews of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and mass market titles), a freelance medical journalist and editor, a cook, a craftsperson, a dancer, a puzzle addict, and a voracious and extremely picky reader. My father is a British-born atheist science fiction writer, journalist, and inventor living in Arizona, and my mother is a Connecticut-born Jewish author and caterer living in New York. I'm a lot like both of them. I'm extralegally married to sinboy, dating xtina, and not-dating regyt. My body is female and my gender is highly variable and often rather strange. sinboy and I live in a beautiful northern Manhattan apartment and have two cats, five laptops, and thousands and thousands of books. I frequently travel and host other travelers. It takes a major emergency to keep me from Arisia or Readercon. I love dark green, as you can probably tell from my LJ style, which I painstakingly coded myself. I have chronic tendinitis in both arms, some sort of cyclothymia, lactose intolerance, and both forms of herpes simplex virus, all of which I manage almost entirely with supplements and lifestyle adjustments rather than prescription medication. I lived in San Francisco from 2001 to 2005; the rest of my life I have lived in or immediately proximate to New York City. My sanity requires that I live in either New York or London, and that I be able to routinely stay up until 2 and sleep until 10. I once spent several weeks attempting to keep a 28-hour schedule and I maintain that it would have worked had it not been disrupted by outside factors. I'm on good terms with almost all of my exes, and almost all the exceptions are people I dated between 2001 and 2005. I have mourned four grandparents and a lover, the latter of whom was killed in the World Trade Center collapse, and I spend much of my life quietly preparing for the inevitable day when I lose other people I love. To the extent that I have religious beliefs, I'm a Jewish pagan pantheist and panentheist. I've studied linguistics, computer science, mathematics, and architecture, but I have no college degrees and at this point don't really feel a need for any. I really hate it when people ask "Are you a writer?" and look disappointed when I say I'm a journalist, as though fiction is the only kind of writing there is. I've had two short stories published in small press anthologies. I'm an unapologetic feminist and a clumsy but well-intentioned ally in the fight to end racism. I don't think there is any inherent harm in queerness, polyamory, non-traditional marriage, unmarried cohabitation, BDSM, pornography, or incest, as long as all the people involved are consenting adults. I have been writing about 200,000 words a year in my LJ since March 2001 and show no signs of slowing.
